Bending the Cost Curve in 4G Backhaul

Industry estimates say that mobile backhaul accounts for as much as 30-40 percent of a mobile network operator’s (MNO’s) opex budget. MNOs and wholesale backhaul providers around the world are increasing the bandwidth on their backhaul networks to handle exploding packet traffic demands. This session will examine how, by leaving the IP forwarding functionality to the mobile endpoints when scaling LTE backhaul networks, connectivity is optimized and associated costs are reduced in line with the simplicity and reliability of the network. Participants will discuss the most efficient and cost-effective approaches to increase bandwidth to meet 4G traffic demands while minimizing the total cost of ownership of the network as the backhaul infrastructure transitions from TDM to packet.
