Non-Line-of-Site (NLoS) Backhaul. Really?

Mobile network operators (MNOs) don’t like interference. They are not really comfortable with unlicensed spectrum, and they are big on redundancy and recoverability.  How much of this can emerging NLoS solutions guarantee, at what distance and with how much interference?  Who is adopting these technologies?  Finally, what has to happen in committee (regulatory, standards, industry, public policy) before we can expect a widespread adoption of this technology?
